HITC Sport understands Reading have had an improved second bid rejected by Birmingham City for striker Clayton Donaldson.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Birmingham City have rejected a second bid from Reading for Clayton Donaldson.

Reading and Leeds both saw initial offers for the powerful forward rejected earlier this month as Birmingham battle to keep hold of Donaldson.

Reading boss Steve Clarke has made the former Brentford hit-man one of his top targets this summer as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

After seeing their initial offer turned down Reading returned with an offer of £800,000 rising to potentially £1.6million with add ons.

However, Birmingham have snubbed the offer for Donaldson with Gary Rowett determined to keep hold of last season’s top scorer.

Donaldson enjoyed a fine debut season with Birmingham last term, scoring 16 goals in all competitions and his departure would leave them short of attacking options.

Leeds remain interested in Donaldson despite the imminent arrival of Chris Wood from Leicester, while several other Championship clubs are also monitoring Donaldson’s situation at St Andrew’s.
