Sympathy is in small supply for West Ham owners.
West Ham United had a day to forget at the weekend – but one which unfortunately will live on in the memory regardless for all the wrong reasons.
The 3-0 home loss to Burnley was overshadowed by unrest from supporters, who directed their anger at club owners David Gold and David Sullivan.
The game was interrupted by fans running onto the pitch and the club have now called for an immediate investigation into the unruly scenes.
This is not Gold and Sullivan’s first rodeo. They have been here before, at former club Birmingham City.
The duo owned Birmingham for 16 years before selling up in 2010.
Back in 2008 Gold declared his intention to sell the club after being subject to a barrage of verbal protests, telling The Guardian: “I have had enough. I don’t want to be here next season.”
Their decision to sell to businessman Carson Yeung proved to be a disaster for Birmingham and has in hindsight made their regime at the club look stable, but there is little sympathy among Blues fans for their current plight at West Ham.
West Ham are now facing the very real prospect of relegation, facing a tough run in, although Birmingham’s own plight means they may not face them in the Championship as they are in line for relegation to League One as the table currently stands.
