Birmingham manager Rowett has admitted that Forest deserved their 3-1 victory over the Blues on Friday.
Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett has admitted that Nottingham Forest deserved their victory at the City Ground on Friday night, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.
Defeat is hard to stomach at any level, but in a league as unpredictable as the Championship you can sometimes become accustom to random results here and there.
For some that will be exactly the case with Forest’s 3-1 victory over Birmingham, with many people now tipping the Blues for a run at the play-offs in the last few weeks.
The game saw the Blues lose away from home in the league for the first time this season, and with some big fixtures coming up in the next few weeks it does beg the question of whether or not the result could shake the team and cause them to go on a bad run of form.
“I thought Forest deserved it,” Rowett admitted, via the Birmingham Mail.
“I have to say I thought they were better than us tonight. I thought they showed more energy and desire.
“Maybe a team that hasn’t won for six is determined to put it right and maybe we looked like a team that had only lost one in 11 and felt as though we could turn up and not work as hard to get another result.
“The first thing – and it’s the most important thing, we weren’t anywhere near the standards we have set this season.”
Forest found themselves 2-0 up after the hour mark and despite Jutkiewicz’s strike giving the visitors hope, in the end it was not enough to mount a comeback.
With the likes of Huddersfield Town and more importantly arch-rivals Aston Villa coming up, Rowett will have to re-focus his side as they prepare for two of their biggest games of the season.
