Birmingham City have got off to a strong start so far in their 2016/17 Championship campaign, but the attendance numbers at St Andrew’s do not represent that success. It has been a noted problem for the club for a few years now, but manager Gary Rowett wants that to change. As reported by Birmingham Mail, Rowett has urged fans to come and watch his side play at St Andrew’s more often this season.
The club are currently down in 14th when it comes to average attendances, with just 15,779 watching the mid-week draw against Preston North End.
“I know it’s difficult in football, particularly a Tuesday night game, but I would love to see us getting 20,000 regularly at St Andrew’s – and even more than that,” he said.

“Please don’t wait for this takeover to happen, I would hate to think all of a sudden 3-4,000 come trotting back.
“If they are out there waiting to come down to the games, come down now.
“That’s not a club directive that have told me to say this so we can get some more bums on seats, it’s a genuine feel from a manager.”

Despite his roots to Aston Villa, the passion from Rowett is clear for all to see and Blues fans should stand up and listen to his comments as who knows how long it will be before a bigger side come calling for the 42-year-old.
Their next home game is a mid-week clash with Rotherham United, followed by a mouthwatering Second City derby against bitter rivals Aston Villa.
