Both Championship sides want Sheffield United striker Che Adams

According to the Sheffield Star, Birmingham City are about to make a player-plus-cash bid for Sheffield United striker Che Adams after seeing their first offer turned down by the League One side. However, with Wolverhampton Wanderers lurking, that kind of bid would arguably be a major mistake by the Blues.
The Sheffield Star reports that Gary Rowett’s men are unwilling to meet Adams’ £2m asking price despite making an initial offer of around £1.2m for the 20-year-old, so are hoping that a player going in the opposite direction will convince the Blades to do a deal.

Although there may well be some players in the Blues’ squad that United boss Chris Wilder likes the look of, they would surely prefer a cash-only deal as it will give them a much greater pool of players to pick from in the market.
And if United do reject the bid, it may well be the last bid Birmingham get to make as the Express and Star reports that the takeover of their Championship rivals Wolves is imminent.

With Kenny Jackett’s men completing just one signing so far this summer, it is likely that one of the first issues that the new owner will look to address is to really get the ball rolling in the transfer window to make up for lost time.
And given the promise that Adams showed last season, it is difficult to imagine that if he is one of the players that the club seriously wants, they will have any hesitation making the kind of bid that gets a deal done with minimal fuss and leaves Birmingham wishing they had just met the asking price.
