Aston Villa should consider bringing Birkir Bjarnason back into their starting line-up at the weekend.

Birkir Bjarnason of Iceland looks on after the international friendly match between Iceland and Czech Republic at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on November 8, 2017 in Doha, Qatar.

Birkir Bjarnason almost left Aston Villa in January, as Tuttomercatoweb reported, but he has managed to prove his worth to the side over recent months.

Bjarnason barely featured for Villa over the first half of the season, but Steve Bruce started him as a defensive midfielder back in January, and the Icelandic international shone.

Bjarnason energy in midfield was a major reason why Villa were able to win seven matches in succession, and the 29-year-old’s value was once again proven at the weekend, even though he was left on the bench.

Villa may have beaten Sheffield Wednesday 4-2, but they look a far more secure team at the back with Bjarnason involved.

And Bruce may have to think about getting the midfielder back into his starting line-up on Saturday.

Villa’s next two matches are against Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland, which presents them with the opportunity to get six points against two struggles sides.

However, Villa will not want to gift their opponents any chances, and Bjarnason should be bought back into Bruce’s side – to provide further steel to their midfield ranks.
