Celtic have returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership, with Rangers in second.
Billy Stark has told Sky Sports that he believes Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos can push the Gers closer to current Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic – if he sorts out his disciplinary record.
Morelos was sent off against Aberdeen prior to Sunday’s clash against Dundee for a petulant reaction to a foul from Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie, which saw the Colombian receive a second yellow card.
The former HJK Helsinki striker is expected to start against Rapid Vienna on Thursday night in the Europa League, but will be suspended when Rangers take on Hamilton at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon.
Stark, who currently coaches Scotland’s Under-18 side, also heaped plenty of praise on former club Celtic for removing the complacency among the squad and reckons that stands them in good stead for another Scottish Premiership title.
“He’s aggressive and that can be good, but it’s come back to haunt them in some respects,” Stark said. “He’s certainly a big miss when he’s suspended, he has to sort out his disciplinary record.
“Nobody would have predicted how tight the top of the table would be, halfway through the season. Fairplay to Celtic, when you win consistently, complacency creeps in. If there’s been one or two signs of that, it’s been stamped out.”
Morelos has been on fire this season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions. He has also created 10 goals in the form of assists in his 29 outings, but he has picked up 10 yellow cards and three red cards.
Rangers take on Rapid Vienna with a win required to see them progress into the last 32 of the Europa League after Christmas, while Celtic will qualify by avoiding defeat against RedBull Salzburg at Parkhead.
