Billy Sharp would surely have been a dream signing for Sunderland, given his impressive start to the season at Sheffield United.

The Sunderland Echo claimed that Sunderland made an attempt to sign the Blades front man, but they were knocked back in their attempts.

In the end, Sunderland failed to sign a fourth striker, despite Jack Ross wanting more attacking options.

And Sharp could have turned out to be a brilliant signing for Sunderland, if they had got the deal across the line.

The 32-year-old forward has notched four goals in his first six appearances this season across all competitions, and looks to have forced his way into Sheffield United’s starting line-up now.

Given that Sharp’s goal are coming in the league above, Sunderland could have been a major threat with him in their team.

And Ross must have some regrets that Sunderland weren’t able to get a deal sorted to bring the clinical finisher to the Stadium of Light.
