What a night it was for Liverpool youngster Billy Koumetio on Wednesday.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp handed the 18-year-old defender a senior debut after bringing him on at half-time in last night’s Champions League draw away to Midtjylland.
Koumetio had been knocking on the door for a full Liverpool bow since emerging as a very exciting prospect during the club’s pre-season games.
And the teenager – affectionately nicknamed ‘Billy the Kid’ by Klopp – has revealed on Instagram that he’s so proud to have made his debut.
It was Fabinho who made way at the break, allowing Koumetio to come in last night.
And the big Brazilian has responded to his young team-mates’s message, writing: “Congratulations, my friend.”
This might be Koumetio’s last action for Liverpool for a while and really, a loan to a Championship club might do wonders for him.
With January on the horizon, Klopp, who is missing both first-choice central defenders, will surely dip into the transfer market and if so, that’ll push the young Frenchman further down the pecking order.
A loan makes total sense for both Koumetio and Liverpool.
