Sunderland are currently in the bottom three of the Premier League.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Sunderland defender Billy Jones says their experience of a relegation battle can help them again this season.
The Black Cats have endured a disappointing first half of the campaign and currently sit in the bottom three.
They went ten games without a win at the start of the campaign and look destined to be in a relegation battle once again this year.
Of course, that is not a new situation for the Black Cats, with fights against the drop having been a common theme at the Stadium of Light in recent years.
And Jones believes the experience they have could prove vital to them this time around.
“I think we have quite a lot of lads who have the experience of knowing what to do to get out of trouble,” he told the Chronicle.
“We need to get back to that standard we were at when we won three out of four and show consistency. If we do that I think we will win more games than we will lose.”
There is no denying that Sunderland do have plenty of experience of this kind of situation and that should stand them in good stead.
The January transfer window is likely to have a bigger impact on their ability to avoid the drop once again though
Last season it proved key to them, with Sam Allardyce’s signings such as Lamine Kone and Jan Kirchhoff proving superb acquisitions and helping to push them away from the drop.
David Moyes will be hoping that he can do something similar this time around.
