BBC pundit Billy Dodds has laid into Rangers defender Joe Worrall for his ‘horrendous’ defending during his side’s 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.

Dodds urged manager Steven Gerrard to buy ‘two centre-halves’ this month if his side want to challenge current leaders Celtic for the title.

Nottingham Forest loanee Worrall was at fault for Kilmarnock’s equaliser when he got caught in possession and Eamonn Brophy capitalised on his mistake by slotting home.

Former Rangers man Dodds destroyed the player for his performance at Rugby Park as he offered some advice to Gerrard in regards to the title race.

“Worrall has had a shocker,” Dodds told BBC Sport. “You just don’t get that amount of time on the ball. He has got options but he just dwells on it. He’s stuck on his feet and Brophy’s on it – It’s a brilliant finish.”

“Kilmarnock got back into the match because of Rangers’ horrendous defending. If they want to put in a challenge, they need two centre-halves.”

Worrall, who has played 12 league games for Gerrard this season, partnered Gareth McAuley at the heart of the club’s defence.

In the match, January signing Jermain Defoe opened the scoring when he slotted home after 12 minutes but Worrall’s mistake 10 minutes later allowed the home team to come back into the game.

Despite the away team hitting the post and dominating the opening stages of the game, Kilmarnock then struck the winner when Jordan Jones scored against the club he will join in the summer.

In regards to the title race, Celtic ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against bottom-of-the-table St Mirren on the same night as they have a game in hand on their rivals and are now three points ahead of their Old Firm rivals in the table.
