Rangers are likely to be in the market for a new striker this summer – and Lyndon Dykes is a name being strongly linked.
The Gers have Jermain Defoe coming on board permanently, which certainly helps. Yet with Alfredo Morelos’s future unclear and Florian Kamberi unlikely to be kept, Steven Gerrard will need another option.
A number of players have already been linked with filling that role. The main one is Dykes, who enjoyed a great season with Livingston.
The Australian star racked up 12 goals and 10 assists for Livi this past season, proving that he can both score and facilitate in the final third.
At 24, Dykes still has his best years ahead of him. He’s a physical nuisance up top, and Celtic defender Christopher Jullien has had a nightmare against him on more than one occasion.
The Scottish Sun recently noted that Dykes is Gerrard’s top striker target. He was considered in January too, but Rangers went with Kamberi instead.
Now, ex-Rangers striker Billy Dodds has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Dykes has ‘all the attributes’ to be a top player and a real success at Ibrox.
Dodds added that Rangers should push the boat out for Dykes as there are few players around like him, claiming that he is the ‘perfect buy for Rangers’ as they need a target man.

“I think Rangers should go and try and bring in Lyndon Dykes,” said Dodds. “They haven’t had what you would call a target man for some time now and they missed that at points last season. He is getting better all of the time and he has plenty of years ahead of him. Dykes has all the attributes you would need to be a top player and he would get more chances to add more goals to his game at Ibrox. I have watched him give the best defenders in the country a tough time and he proved himself at Livi last season.”
“There are gems to be had in Scotland and Dykes is someone who has the quality to play for Rangers. Boys like him don’t come around too often and I would be pushing the boat out to get him this summer.”
“Dykes would give them an entirely different option and give teams something extra to think about. I saw him against Rangers twice last season and he was a handful. He gave the defenders a hard game. He did the same to Celtic as well. Dykes is surprisingly quick and he can play in behind. His goal record last season was better than one in three and for a targetman that is good going. He is the perfect buy for Rangers and the type of player that Gerrard is going to need if he is to stop Celtic,” he added.
