Slaven Bilic saw his West Ham United side come from 2-0 down to beat Everton 3-2 this afternoon.
West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic has told Football 365 that he told his side to be ‘less sexy’ with their football against Everton, whilst he also praised his substitutes on the club’s official website.
The Hammers played their part in a stunning game at Goodison Park, but it all started badly for them as Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring for Roberto Martinez’s Toffees, but Kevin Mirallas’ red card offered hope of a comeback to Bilic’s men.
However, Aaron Lennon then made it 2-0 for Everton, and the turning point in the game arrived when Lukaku’s penalty was saved by Adrian, sparking a fightback from West Ham.
Michail Antonio scored for the third game in a row to bring West Ham back into the game, and substitute Diafra Sakho swooped to make it 2-2 just moments later.
Then, in the dying seconds, playmaker Dimitri Payet scored to complete a 3-2 win for West Ham, keeping them just one point off the Champions League places.
In what has been a super season for West Ham, today will go down as one of the finest days of the campaign, and manager Bilic was clearly delighted after the final whistle.
Bilic revealed to Football 365 after the final whistle that he told his side to be ‘less sexy’ with their style of play in order to get back into the game, sparking West Ham’s comeback – and hailed the impact of his substitutes in an interview on the club’s official website, after Sakho scored the qualiser.
“I said at half-time ‘We are one down but we are going to do it. We have to be less sexy and more lethal in front of the box’,” said Bilic. “To come back like this nobody can deny we didn’t deserve it. We showed our quality, we showed our stubbornness and we got a great win.”
“It’s the third time on the spin the guys off the bench have made such a big impact and that’s why it’s a great day for West Ham United,” he added.
