Hammers boss Slaven Bilic explained how he instructed Manuel Lanzini and Edimilson Fernandes to get closer to Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli, during the half-time break against Spurs on Wednesday night, when writing a column for the club’s official website.

West Ham turned in an absolutely superb second-half performance, and eventually ran out 3-2 winners against Tottenham, earning themselves a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in the process.

The east London outfit have struggled for form and confidence so far this season, but Wednesday night’s victory should provide them with just the lift they need, as they head into a vital stage of their campaign.

And Bilic shared how he tried to mix things up against their bitter rivals during the half-time interval, when writing his column for WHUFC.com, highlighting the importance of his players pressing higher up the pitch:

“At half-time, I told them that the result was very bad, to calm down and to do some things better when we had the ball, and Manuel Lanzini and Edi Fernandes to close down Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli when they had the ball and I told one of the strikers he has to be on Eric Dier, who had a lot of time and space in the first half.”
