Arsenal were booted out of the EFL Cup by West Ham United in a rare off-colour performance from Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Premier League title hopefuls only suffered their second defeat of the campaign, with David Moyes’ West Ham United recording a comfortable 3-1 win at the London Stadium.
Not many Arsenal players can hold their heads up after that performance, with Kai Havertz getting pelters after another poor showing.
But Jamie Mackie was sure to praise Reiss Nelson for being Arsenal’s ‘biggest threat’ on the right-hand side, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (01/11/23 at 10:10 pm).
The 23-year-old earned a rare start from Mikel Arteta, with the main man, Bukayo Saka, resting on the bench and coming on for Reiss Nelson just after the hour mark.
Arsenal were 3-0 down at that point, so you have to question what was the point of that change, with Jamie Mackie impressed by Reiss Nelson’s performance.
Reiss Nelson v West Ham
“Nelson on their right-hand side was probably their biggest threat, especially in the first half,” said Mackie. “He did alright and he was looking to cause problems.”

Reiss Nelson won’t progress at Arsenal
The Hale-End star just doesn’t earn enough starts or minutes that suggest he will progress to the level he wants to go in his career.
Nelson has only played 254 minutes of football this term, the majority of those came in the EFL Cup and now Arsenal have been knocked out of it.
You have to question why the powers that be at Arsenal gave Nelson a new contract because the most he has played in the Premier League this season is 21 minutes.
Whilst he has only played 52 minutes in the Champions League. If Arteta really trusted him, then he would have surely provided him with more minutes by now?!
