Reported Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur target Wahid Faghir will “undoubtedly” be the biggest transfer in the history of Danish outfit Vejle BK, technical director Jacob Kruger has told Kobmaendenes Klub.

Players like this don’t come around every day in Scandinavia. Less so at sleeping giants Vejle, five-time Superligaen champions who have fallen on hard times.

But Faghir, a striker labelled the ‘new Zlatan Ibrahimovic’ because of his size, skill and ruthless finishing, looks like one of those rare talents, a generational footballer capable of scribing his name into Vejle’s history books.

The Daily Star (28 February, page 65) reports Tottenham have made their interest known.

Leicester City have failed with a £1 million bid of their own while Wolves, seven months after signing another wonderkid forward in Fabio Silva, are also in the queue (Calciomercato).

And Kruger is in no doubt Vejle will soon bring in a club-record fee – one in excess of £2.3 million.

“Wahid will undoubtedly be Vejle’s biggest sale ever,” the technical director says. “I have no doubt about that at all. There is just huge interest in players when they have that age and play that position.”

In 22 games, Faghir has scored five times during his debut season in Denmark’s top flight.

That may not seem particularly prolific but it’s worth considering Faghir is still a teenager and Vejle, as recently as last term, were a second-tier side.
