Danny Murphy told talkSPORT that Heung-Min Son is showing a lack of ambition by signing a new contract at Tottenham, but Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe isn’t.
Both Spurs and Arsenal announced recently that two of their prized assets, Son and Smith Rowe, have committed their futures to the club.
Given that Son is 29-years-old, this is perhaps his last chance to win a trophy, whilst the Arsenal academy product, who is nine years younger, has plenty of life left in his footballing tank.
Former Premier League midfielder, Murphy, shared that Arsenal being a ‘bigger club’ than Spurs is one reason why Smith Rowe’s situation is different to his North London counterparts.
“That’s a very different thing,” said Murphy. “Son is 29, so he is in a much more content frame of mind where he knows what he likes, where he is and how he enjoys his environment
“Financially, he is fine and he is in last chance saloon, which is why I said what said that it is a little bit stranger because he is nearing the end and it’s highly unlikely he is going to win silverware at Tottenham in the next few years.
“Emile Smith Rowe, on the other hand, has wonderful talent a big fan of his. It’s not relevant when you are that age. He’s also at a bigger club, more successful in the last decade and 20 years. It’s trying to get back.”

Son may not have a trophy to his name, at this moment in time, but he has had a remarkable Premier League career, so far.
The South Korea international has bagged 70 goals in 197 league games, including supplying 43 assists (transfermarkt).
Whilst Smith Rowe is only starting up, if he can achieve those numbers during his career, or more, then he will be pretty pleased for himself.
