Roy Keane has said on ITV (4:47pm, July 30, 2022) that Manchester City are worried about Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and do not consider Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal a threat.

The former Manchester United star made the comments while discussing Manchester City’s decision to sell Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Keane believes that City are not worried about selling players to Arsenal because the defending Premier League champions do not consider the Gunners a threat.

The Premier League legend has said that City are doing their transfer business in order to stay ahead of Liverpool.

Keane made the comments in the build-up to the FA Community Shield between Liverpool and Manchester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The pundit said on ITV (4:47pm, July 30, 2022), as transcribed by The Mirror: “I wouldn’t doubt Pep’s opinion on players. He works with them closely.

“You’ve got to keep moving on, you’ve got to freshen things up. They’ve got good money for these players, who have been brilliant players for Manchester City.

“Jesus has really done well the last few months, Sterling’s stats are fantastic, but with Haaland coming in, Pep’s probably thinking he wants to keep a hungry squad. That’s the name of the game.

“He probably, at this moment in time with the money that came in, doesn’t see these clubs – certainly Arsenal – as a threat.

“The big worry at the moment is trying to keep ahead of Liverpool. Liverpool and Manchester City are so far ahead of the other teams, he thought it’s worth a gamble.”

Competition

In our view, Liverpool and Manchester City are going to face a stronger competition from Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur this season than they did in the last campaign.

Yes, Liverpool and City have the best and strongest squads in England at the moment, but the Blues, the Gunners and Spurs will push them hard.

After all, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all are big and ambitious clubs who will be keen on winning the Premier League title themselves, if not this season, then certainly in the coming years.
