Chris Sutton has said on Twitter that Arsenal should not sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in the January transfer window, pointing out what happened between Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season.

The former Chelsea striker does not believe that Manchester United forward Ronaldo would be a good signing for Arsenal in the middle of the campaign.

The BBC pundit made the comments in response to TV presenter and media personality Piers Morgan saying on talkSPORT that Arsenal should make a move for the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward in January.

The Portugal international forward has slammed United manager Erik ten Hag and his situation at the club in an interview with Morgan on TalkTV.

Morgan is an Arsenal fan, and he wants the £360,000-a-week (The Sun) Ronaldo at the Emirates Stadium for the second half of the current campaign, but Sutton has pointed out what Arteta did with Aubameyang in the middle of last season.

Arsenal manager Arteta decided to ditch the Gabonese striker, who subsequently joined Barcelona on a free transfer.

Aubameyang moved to Arsenal’s London and Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2022.
