Simon Jordan has claimed that Dan Ashworth has a ‘big reputation’ amid rumours that he is heading to Newcastle, as he told talkSPORT.

The former Crystal Palace owner thinks that the Newcastle job is a ‘big project’ and they need somebody who knows what they are doing.

On Monday, Brighton confirmed on Twitter that Ashworth has resigned from his role as technical director – and now there are suggestions that he is going to Newcastle.

When the Saudi-led ownership took charge of the Magpies, one thing that was constantly mentioned was the club’s lack of footballing people.

Former Celtic transfer guru, Nick Hammond, for a brief period, was a consultant at the north east club, but he recently departed.

If Newcastle add Ashworth to their ranks, then they would be bringing in a man of high-quality experience, especially given what he did with England.

During his days as an owner, Jordan would have hired his fair share of people to add to his boardroom and he shared his thoughts on Ashworth.

“Well, he comes with a big reputation,” said Jordan. “People perceive the job he has done with England, and other jobs he has done, to be successful.

“So, I would imagine he is going to Newcastle. And it’s a big project. They are going to need somebody that knows what they are doing because that will help them make the right decision.”

Even though Newcastle lacked those footballing people across the board during the January transfer window.

They still did pretty well to lure the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes to their club.

And now it’s a case of the team doing the talking out on the pitch, even if there would have been a level of disappointment at Jesse Lingard not being signed up.
