Roy Keane says Arsenal and Newcastle United transfer target Sander Berge is a ‘big player’ for Sheffield United, as he told ITV Sport.
The Old Trafford legend added that there will be ‘relief’ from the promotion-chasing Blades that Berge didn’t leave during the January transfer window.
Paul Heckingbotton’s side knocked non-league Wrexham out of their FA Cup replay on Tuesday night, with Berge getting on the scoresheet in stoppage time.

The 24-year-old missed the reverse fixture because the January transfer window was still open and Sheffield United were protecting their asset, just in case he was sold.
In the end, a move didn’t materialise for the hard-hitting midfielder, with rumours that the Arsenal and Newcastle target could leave on a free in 2024 as he bids to see out his current deal at Bramall Lane.
Nonetheless, former Manchester United captain Roy Keane shared his thoughts on the player and those in Yorkshire keeping one of their key assets on board.
“I have seen a few bits and pieces of Berge (over the years),” said Keane. “There was, of course, relief from the club that he wasn’t sold.
“We talk about recruitment, but it’s also a case of holding onto players that you want around the place. A big player, especially in the Championship.
“Big challenge for these players, obviously if they are in a great place to get promoted. How are they are going to do in the Premier League? That’s where the big boy stuff is. But a very good player.”

WILL BERGE GET HIS MOVE?
There’s no doubt that the £22 million star (BBC Sport) is too good to be playing in England’s second-tier.
It could be argued that he should have got his move away from Sheffield United last summer, nevermind during the winter transfer window.
But, with Heckingbottom’s side sitting in a comfortable automatic position, then Berge will get his return to the Premier League, it’s just a question of if his current club will be able to keep him on board, especially given that he will have 12 months left to run on his contract.
