Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will not be able to sign Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries if they want a swap deal involving Takehiro Tomiyasu, according to Fabrizio Romano in CaughtOffSide.

The well-known and well-resected journalist has reported that Inter are not looking for any swap deals for Dumfries, who can also operate as a centre-back or as a right wing-back.

Romano has said that, if Arsenal want to secure the services of the Netherlands international who starred for his country at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, then they will have to pay big money.

Earlier this month, Italian news outlet CMW reported that Arsenal are ready to make a bid for the £55,000-a-week (SalarySport) Dutchman in the summer of 2023 and are willing to include Japan international right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu in the deal.

Romano said: “Inter Milan are not looking for swap deals for Denzel Dumfries, as things stand.

“Big money or nothing, this is their stance – and the absolute priority is to keep Dumfries at least until the end of the season.

“So, despite some talk of interest from Arsenal and a swap deal involving Takehiro Tomiyasu, I don’t think Arsenal will invest big money there.”

Should Arsenal bid for Denzel Dumfries?

In our opinion, Arsenal should not bid for Inter Milan and Netherlands international full-back Denzel Dumfries unless they really, really, really want him.

The Gunners are well stocked at right full-back for now.

Takehiro Tomiyasu did well for Arsenal in that position last season, and he is not playing regularly there now because of the form of Ben White.

Despite being a centre-back by trade, the England international has done superbly at right-back for the Gunners.

Why would Arsenal spend money on a position they do not have to reinforce?
