Liverpool eased past Preston North End in the League Cup to qualify for the quarter-finals, and it was a night to remember for one Elijah Dixon-Bonner.

The 20-year-old midfielder made his first senior appearance for the Merseyside giants as the Reds booked their ticket into the final eight of the cup competition.

With Manchester City crashing out, Liverpool are one of the favourites to secure the League Cup, alongside Chelsea and Arsenal. Yet Jurgen Klopp has used the competition as a chance to give youngsters their debuts.

Midfielder Tyler Morton last night made his debut for Liverpool, along with Dixon-Bonner who came off the bench. Whilst Kaide Gordon and Conor Bradley both started in the previous round against Norwich City.

Indeed, Dixon-Bonner has impressed for Liverpool at U-23 level this season. The midfielder recently scored a brace in a 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers, and his form has been rewarded with a first-team start.

And the midfielder was delighted with the chance. Dixon-Bonner took to Twitter to post a heartfelt message following his first senior appearance for Liverpool.
