Tim Sherwood said on Sky Sports News (12:11pm, October 17, 2020) that he does not think that Everton star James Rodriguez would get into the Liverpool team.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager has been impressed with how James, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has played for the Toffees so far this season.

However, Sherwood does not think that the Colombia international is good enough to play for the current Liverpool side.

Sherwood said on Sky Sports News (12:11pm, October 17, 2020) when asked if James would get into the Liverpool team on current form: “No, I think he has got a way to go. I like him. I think he has done brilliant.

“He seems to relish the fact that he is a big fish in a smaller pond, with respect to Everton.

“We know what a giant football club they are, but they are not Real Madrid, they are not Bayern Munich where he has been in the past and has just been another body.”

Flourishing at Everton

James joined Everton from Spanish and European giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window and has been brilliant for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

According to WhoScored, the 29-year-old has scored three goals and provided three assists in five Premier League games for the Merseyside club so far this season.

Given the quality of players Liverpool have in their attack – Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are world-class players – it is hard to see how James would play week in and week out for the Reds.

However, that should not detract from the fact that James is a very good footballer who will play a big role in Everton’s quest to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
