Well, Luis Diaz is closing in on a transfer to Liverpool.
Everybody has known that for a few days now, when it was reported by various media outlet that the Colombia international had elected to join Liverpool after snubbing Tottenham Hotspur.
However, now the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly given his seal of approval.
According to reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the German manager has greenlit the Anfield outfit’s £50 million signing of the Porto winger, who has 16 goals in all competitions this season.
Romano also added that Liverpool are confident that all the paperwork will be filed successfully to complete the transfer before Monday’s deadline.
Here’s what the journalist posted on Twitter this morning:
Low salary?
Despite being a soon-to-be £50 million winger, Diaz won’t be earning insane money on Merseyside.
According to Portuguese outlet SIC, the 25-year-old will sign a contract worth around £55,000 per week.
And that’s a good thing!
Sometimes the execessive salaries in football can have an adverse affect on a player’s hunger.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the Premier League’s finest goalscorer until signing a new bumper £350,000 per week deal, which precipitated his decline at Arsenal.
If Diaz wants to earn the big bucks at Liverpool, it’ll have to be in his next contract and there won’t be another one unless he does the business on the pitch.
The South American attacker is joining Klopp’s outfit with hunger to impress for many different reasons and, hopefully, he proves himself an inspired addition.
