Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been left blown away by Steve Cooper, who was linked with the vacant Tottenham Hotspur job.

The Spaniard was quoted by the club’s official website singing Cooper’s praises, who journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke claimed was on Spurs’ radar in April on The View From The Lane podcast.

Whether Tottenham Hotspur end up appointing Steve Cooper as their new manager or not, what can be assured is Mikel Arteta rates him highly.

Mikel Arteta raves about Tottenham manager target Steve Cooper

The 43-year-old has done a truly remarkable job at Nottingham Forest, who could be set to remain in the Premier League this season.

Despite the club having signed a raft of players and their return to the league starting in nightmarish fashion, Forest’ faith in Cooper seems to have paid off.

Tottenham may well have been left awestruck by Steve Cooper, who has an admirer of his in Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

“Brilliant, they made so many changes and I’m sure he found it very difficult with the amount of signings they had. The club was patient, especially with the way they performed the year before and what they’ve done in the league”, Arteta said, ahead of his side’s upcoming clash against Forest.

“Maintaining that belief and that unity around the place, big credit to him for what he’s done with the team.”

Tottenham could aim much higher than Steve Cooper

Mikel Arteta is spot on about Steve Cooper and while one can understand why Tottenham may have targeted him as their potential next manager, they could simply do so much better.

Especially with mainly Luis Enrique still out of work, who remains one of the absolute best coaches in the world.

Steve Cooper could well stabilise Spurs but to deal with Daniel Levy, run a long-term project as well as set a tactical blueprint for years to come are challenges that may be past his current capabilities.

With the mess Tottenham find themselves in, they should lay emphasis on experience and calibre more than anything.
