Harry Redknapp has confidently stated that Leeds United are in ‘no danger’ of going down and he has backed them to do ‘very well’ this season, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (05/10/20 at 11:40 pm).

It has been a productive and healthy start to the season for Leeds, both on and off the field, with the club signing winger Raphinha from Rennes on deadline day.

Not long after Leeds captured Raphinha’s signature, Redknapp was asked to share his thoughts on Leeds and how he thinks they will fair during this campaign.

“No danger of them going back down,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “I think they will establish themselves now as a Premier League team. Great support. Big club.

“I don’t see them being in any relegation scrap this year. I think they are going to do very well.”

After a whirlwind and high-tempo start for Leeds, a handful of their players will now rest because of the forthcoming international games, whilst others will be on national duty.

Kalvin Phillips will be heading to St Georges Park once more, with England set to be involved in a triple-header – a friendly against Wales and two crucial Nation League matches against Belgium and Denmark.

Leeds United’s first six fixtures of 2020/21

  1. Liverpool (A)

    September 12

  2. Fulham (H)

    September 19

  3. Sheffield United (A)

    September 26

  4. Manchester City (H)

    October 3

  5. Wolves (H)

    October 17

  6. Aston Villa (A)

It will be interesting to see if Gareth Southgate starts Phillips because he has had a strong start to the campaign and he was selected from the off the last time England were in action.

But there is some serious competition for England’s midfield places and these forthcoming matches are huge for the players to stamp down their marker on the team ahead of Euro 2021.
