Jamie Carragher has backed Liverpool to beat Chelsea on Super Sunday amid rumours Romelu Lukaku has been axed, as he posted on Instagram.

The Sky pundit added that ‘obviously’ Lukaku is out, although it hasn’t been confirmed that Thomas Tuchel has left him out of the Chelsea matchday squad that will face off against Liverpool.

It has been a brilliant week for Manchester City in the title race, as both Chelsea and Liverpool are aware that dropped points today might just end their hopes of being crowned champions in May.

But if Lukaku is indeed missing, as reported by Sky Sports, then it would be a huge boost for a Liverpool side that is going to be without Jurgen Klopp on the touchline because he has to self-isolate.

Either way, this is what Carragher had to say about Chelsea and Liverpool, and those Lukaku rumours.

“What score am I saying,” said Carragher. “I have to go for a Liverpool win.

“Obviously, Lukaku is out. A few players out for Chelsea and a few for Liverpool. Klopp not being here is a blow.

“We will get into that (rumours of Lukaku not being in the squad) – A great Super Sunday, big talking points, with Lukaku being the main one. One of these teams need to win to stay in the title race.”

All of this Lukaku talk stems from an interview he did with Sky Italy a number of weeks back where he shared that he wants to, one day, return to Inter and how he has been ‘frustrated’ by his game time at Chelsea.

Only in the summer did Chelsea stump up near £100 million to bring back the hard-hitting Belgian to Premier League shores.

And if Tuchel has gone down the route of leaving him out, then it will be interesting to see what happens next and whether this is just a one-off thing.

Either way, it will make life for the likes of Virgil van Dijk a lot easier today because he won’t have to deal with his threat in the final third.
