Sandro Tonali was linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the summer transfer window, but the Gunners did not – or could not – sign the AC Milan midfielder.
Arsenal linked with AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali
On August 5, 2022, Journalist Enrico Camelio told CalcioMercato.it, as translated by TheBootRoom, that Arsenal and Milan ‘met and talked about Tonali’.
The defending Serie A champions were reportedly willing to sell the 22-year-old midfielder for €55 million (£47.72 million).
No move happened.
And now well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Tonali is about to sign a new contract with his club AC Milan.

The Italian journalist has claimed that Milan ‘have reached full agreement’ with the 22-year-old over a new deal, and that the contract will be officially signed later today.

Future Arsenal transfer possible?
Now, this turn of events should not dissuade Arsenal from making a move for Tonali again.
The Italy international midfielder may sign a new deal until June 2027, but if Arsenal make a bid for him next summer, then they could be able to sign him.
After all, a huge offer from the Gunners could be very tempting for Milan.
Tonali has made three starts and one substitute appearance in Serie A for Milan so far this season.
The 22-year-old gave one assist in those games.
The Italian youngster has also played once in the UEFA Champions League for the Rossoneri this campaign.
