What a signing Rodrigo Bentancur is proving to be for Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs snapped up the former Juventus midfielder during the January transfer window for a bargain £15.8 million.
Alongside with Dejan Kulusevski out wide, the Uruguay international has absolutely added a dimension to Tottenham under Antonio Conte since arriving.
Last night, Bentancur was a powerhouse in midfield as the Lilywhites hammered North London rivals Arsenal 3-0 to keep alive their hopes of Champions League qualification.
Afterwards, Bentancur reacted on Instagram by posting a photo and writing: “This is a very special win.”
And among the responses was a certain Cristian Romero, who missed the victory through injury.
The Tottenham centre-back simply wrote ‘Animalote’ which, when translated, means ‘big animal’.
How much did Bentancur cost?
According to Football London, the initial payment was under £16 million.
But longer term, Tottenham will be paying £21.5 million.
Even at that figure, it’s an absolute steal and Spurs supporters should be absolutely elated at picking up such a fantastic player, labelled ‘amazing‘ by Antonio Conte.
This is someone who’s only going to get miles better as he continues to adapt to Premier League football and both he and Kulusevski – who joined on loan from Juventus – could have exceptional first full seasons in North London next term.
