The Telegraph have reported that Carlos Corberan is on Leeds’ list of potential candidates to replace Marcelo Bielsa if the Argentine leaves at the end of the season.
This would be a very intriguing appointment. After all, Corberan was once the Whites’ U23s manager, and a lot of his former players are still at the club.
Some are flourishing in the first-team such as Pascal Struijk and Jamie Shackleton, while some are struggling out on loan such as Ryan Edmondson.
However, there is one loan player who has been shining this season, and if Corberan is appointed, he could become a star at Leeds.
We’re talking about Mateusz Bogusz.
Bogusz was tipped for big things from a young age at Leeds, but sadly, he hasn’t yet been able to make an impact in the senior team.
It has been very clear that the Polish youngster has an immense amount of talent. Fans have been fawning over his performances out on loan this season, and for good reason.
He has four goals and seven assists in the Spanish second-tier this term, and while his season has been cut short by injury, there’s reason to be optimistic about his future, especially if Corberan is appointed.
Indeed, the Spaniard is a big fan of Bogusz, describing him as a ‘special’ player after his U23s debut a few years ago.
“I think Mateusz is a young but very talented player,” Corberan said.
“He’s only been here a few weeks at the club. And today was the first time he could play a game. I think he’s a special player.
“We are going to continue to work with him because I think he can give a lot and bring very positive things for this club.”
Leeds have issues in the attacking midfield position right now, and if Corberan is appointed at the end of the season, he could hand Bogusz a chance in that role.
The 20-year-old has shown in Spain just how talented he is, and who knows? Perhaps if he’s given a chance under a new manager at Leeds, he’ll become a star.
