Leeds United have just announced that they had signed Diego Llorente.
The Spain international has joined the Premier League new boys on a four-year deal from Real Sociedad.
Llorente, a centre-back, came through the ranks at Real Madrid and could well be a big asset for Marcelo Bielsa’s side throughout the season.
After only two games back in the top flight, Leeds have scored seven and conceded seven goals.
There’s no shame in conceding four times against Premier League champions Liverpool – particularly at Anfield – but shipping three against Fulham is a cause for concern and an indication that Bielsa needed defensive reinforcements.
United have done some cracking business and, with 12 days left in the transfer window, there could be more to come at Elland Road.
And although some rivals fans believe that signing Llorente is a sign of a successful season on the horizon, others have mocked this £18 million addition:
It’ll be interesting to see if Bielsa drops Liam Cooper or Robin Koch to accommodate Llorente.
Cooper is Leeds’ club captain and played a big role in helping them to promotion last term, though Koch is a £13 million summer signing but one who has struggled in the Premier League so far.
The Yorkshire side are away to Sheffield United on Sunday and time will tell whether the Argentine gives his new Spaniard – who has five caps for his country – a debut at Bramall Lane.
