Manchester City are determined to keep Phil Foden at the club, the Manchester Evening News reported yesterday.

It was in response to social media chatter that Foden could be heading on loan to Leeds United.

Foden is regarded as one of England’s best prospects, having made his debut for champions City at just 17.

The decision he is staying put is a big shame for all, perhaps even the player.

Leeds welcome new boss Marcelo Bielsa on Monday when he will hold his first press conference and meet the players.

He has a strong relationship with City boss Pep Guardiola, who once referred to him as the best in the world, a moniker he himself has since earned.

Before even settling in at Leeds, it appears he has been denied the chance to sign Foden on loan, with City making a firm decision.

It seems Bielsa will not even get the opportunity to try and convince City, with their minds already made up.

It is a shame for the Whites as Foden is such a special talent, and one who could have had a huge impact on their promotion ambitions.

For Foden himself it is also a questionable too, as he has been denied the chance to play regular football, and at City it is too early for him to expect this.

Playing in front of big crowds at Leeds could have prepared him well for future City stardom, and while there could be further loan opportunities in the future, missing out on the start of Bielsa’s Leeds revolution is a shame for all.
