Leeds must target Luiz Araujo.

Marcelo Bielsa’s departure from Lille has not been kind to his first signing for the French side.

Now the Leeds United boss should consider bringing Luiz Araujo to Elland Road in January.

Lille paid £9 million to sign Araujo from Sao Paulo in 2017 and had high hopes for the attacking midfielder.

The 22-year-old scored five times in 24 starts last season, a solid start, but this year he has been reduced to a bit part player.

Araujo has only one start to his name plus five substitute appearances, managing to score once.

He is a player who Leeds should be looking to bring in to boost their promotion hopes and provide an extra attacking option with Samu Saiz currently struggling.

Araujo was hailed when he arrived at Lille, with club general director Marc Ingla telling GFFN: “He is a young and spectacular player.”

The Brazilian can play out wide as well as through the middle and would improve Leeds at a crucial point in the season if the Whites move in January.

The Bielsa connection and his current lack of game time makes it a deal worth exploring for Leeds, especially if a loan move is in play.
