Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has admitted to Leeds Live that there is not a designated penalty taker when Kemar Roofe is not on the pitch.

When Leeds were awarded a penalty in the first half of their Championship game against Bolton Wanderers at Elland Road this past Saturday afternoon, Tyler Roberts, Patrick Bamford and Pablo Hernandez all wanted to take it.

In the end, it was Bamford who took it – and scored, with Leeds going on to win the match 2-1.

Leeds head coach Bielsa has admitted that when Roofe is not on the pitch, the Whites do not have a designated penalty kick taker.

Bielsa told Leeds Live when asked if there is a designated penalty taker: “When Roofe was playing, it was Roofe. And actually as Roofe is not on the pitch we haven’t designated anyone.

“But on penalties there is one point that is very important. Usually the player who takes the ball has an advantage to shoot because he has the ball in his hand. Because he shows he is confident.”

Need for a designated penalty taker

While it was encouraging Bamford, Roberts and Hernandez all wanted to take the penalty against Bolton, it did not look great to fans and to observers that three players were ‘arguing’ over it.

To make things more orderly and move smoothly, Leeds head coach Bielsa needs to pick designated penalty taker and have a list.
