Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has labelled Diego Flores and Carlos Corberán as ‘very valuable’ individuals in their pursuit in management, as he told his pre-match press conference.
The duo – now first-team managers – worked with Bielsa at Leeds and helped get the club promoted before moving into more senior roles elsewhere.
During the summer of 2020, Championship side Huddersfield Town brought in Corberán as the first-team coach.
Whilst Flores is now the manager of Godoy Cruz in Argentina’s top-flight, after being handed the keys last month.
Bielsa spoke about the two individuals and how he encourages his backroom staff to ‘abandon’ him in order to pursue their dreams.
“In the case of Diego Flores and Carlos Corberán, who were here with us,” said Bielsa.
“They are very valuable people, with clear attributes to take on board the charge of a manager. They worked close to us.
“The coaches are good if they can convince and if they can give orders that are followed and the content of what they propose, when they try to convince or their demands, are obeyed.
“With respect to the rest of my staff, I always dream that they will all abandon me to find a space in which they hope to be in. I always recommend them to leave.”
Even though it’s early days, Flores has started pretty well with Godoy Cruz and is unbeaten in his first four games in charge.
As for Corberán, Huddersfield avoided relegation to League One last season, and despite a bright start, they drifted into trouble and towards the wrong end of the table before finishing 20th.
But things are looking a lot rosier this time around, with the Terries just sitting outside of the play-off places.
A defeat to rock-bottom Nottingham Forest didn’t help their cause last time out, but a promotion push might be on the cards if they can continue their current ways.
