Marcelo Bielsa has praised the link-up play between Jack Harrison and Junior Firpo in Leeds United’s 3-0 win against Crewe Alexandra in the League Cup.

Speaking to Leeds Live after the Premier League side’s rampant victory over the League One side, the Argentine coach has high words for the Leeds duo.

Harrison scored twice on the night as Leeds scored three times in the final 11 minutes against Crewe.

Firpo made only his second start for Leeds since joining from FC Barcelona in the summer. The defender started in his more natural left-back position, and the 25-year-old fullback was impressive against Crewe.

Indeed, Leeds’ fielded a strong XI against the League One side, with Kalvin Phillips taking the armband on the night. Yet Bielsa was most impressed with the partnership between Harrison and Firpo, which was key to the 3-0 scoreline.

Bielsa said when asked about Harrison’s impact on the game: “He unbalanced a lot through his sector. He linked up well with Junior. Him and Junior as his teammate, they generated a lot.”

With Leeds picking up just one point in their opening two Premier League games, a 3-0 win was exactly what the Yorkshire side needed after a tough start to the season.

And the performance from Firpo, as well as his newfound partnership with Harrison, will no doubt boost the Spanish defender’s confidence at his new side. Even more so with Bielsa signalling him for praise after a big result.
