Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear has suggested on The Square Ball podcast that Marcelo Bielsa will sign a new contract this week.

Kinnear has said that it is pretty much a given that Bielsa will put pen to paper on the dotted line.

The Englishman has said that it was decided six months ago that Bielsa would continue as the Leeds head coach.

The Leeds CEO has said that it is only a formality that the Argentine will sign a contract.

Kinnear said on The Square Ball podcast, as transcribed by Leeds Live: “He’s ready. His contract isn’t ready but he’s ready. I think we are very lucky to have a manager who is so exceptional at preparing a team for the start of the season and his pre-seasons are meticulous.

“I think bar the contract we’re in great shape. It’ll be signed this week and announced to great excitement. It’s not even been discussed. The discussions are all around preparations, it really is a formality.

“We had a handshake probably six months ago and it really is just the details. Every day he’s talking to Victor [Orta], Andrea [Radrizzani] and myself but it’s all about preparations.”

Exciting for Leeds United fans

The same thing happened last year.

Bielsa signed a contract at Leeds only in September.

At least this time around the Argentine is going to put pen to paper in August.

There is no frustration or worry among Leeds fans that Bielsa has still not officially signed a contract.

The Elland Road faithful know how Bielsa works.

However, you can rest assured that the Leeds fans will celebrate the news once it is confirmed this week.

Bielsa is a legend at Leeds.

After all, the Argentine took the Whites back to the Premier League, and then last season they finished as high as ninth in the standings.
