Marcelo Bielsa has insisted to Leeds Live that Gianni Alioski could be even better than Jack Harrison for Leeds United.

Alioski is set to step in to Leeds’ attack at the weekend, when they take on Manchester City, with Harrison unavailable.

City have put in a clause in Harrison’s loan deal, which means that he is unable to play against them.

Alioski is now being lined up as Harrison’s replacement, and Bielsa has faith that the North Macedonia international can step up to the challenge.

“When a player comes out of the XI and another player comes in and you have to mix a lot of common faces. Harrison is very important,” he said.

“Alioski is able to do as well or better than Harrison. Then after there is a game where you have to show.”

Leeds will need Alioski to produce his very best if they are to have a chance of taking points off City.

Alioski will provide Leeds with more defensive support than Harrison, but the City loanee had started the season excellently.

Harrison has already claimed a goal and an assist in Leeds’ first three Premier League matches and he has looked a constant threat.

His absence to Leeds is unquestionably a blow, but City have shown vulnerability already this term, and Bielsa’s men will be looking to expose their defensive issues again on Saturday.
