Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that his whole team worked hard to keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin quiet on Saturday.

The Whites travelled to face Everton on Saturday evening, hoping for a win having endured a frustrating night against Arsenal last week.

Leeds were the better side throughout, and got a deserved winner when Raphinha drove a second-half strike into the corner of the net.

Leeds had more than 20 shots on goal at Goodison Park, so it’s hard to argue with them running out winners, and they did a fine job nullifying Everton.

James Rodriguez was tracked diligently by Stuart Dallas, Richarlison cut a frustrated figure and Calvert-Lewin couldn’t get much out of the Leeds back line.

The England international had just one shot on target, and whilst he was his usual aerial threat with eight headers won, he couldn’t find the net.

After the game, Bielsa admitted that the whole Leeds side made a ‘big effort’ to stop Calvert-Lewin, working hard to ensure he didn’t have great chances to score even if he was still dangerous – and it worked a treat.

“It’s not easy to neutralise him,” said Calvert-Lewin. “The whole team made a big effort defensively to stop him, especially out centre-backs against him. But he had chances to score and we worked so that the opportunities he had on goal would be difficult ones. But nonetheless, he was a player who was as dangerous as he usually is,” he added.
