Marcelo Bielsa has admitted that Patrick Bamford didn’t have a great game for Leeds United this afternoon, claiming he had ‘no influence’ on the team.
Leeds went down 2-0 away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Goals in both halves from Pascal Gross and Danny Welbeck were enough to down the Whites today.
Bielsa took Bamford off on 57 minutes for Rodrigo and Leeds, in Bielsa’s defence, did look to improve a little bit going forward.
Still, the 27-year-old is United’s top goalscorer this season but it was a difficult day for the England hopeful.
In almost an hour of football, Bamford only managed 15 touches and didn’t manage a single shot on target and despite claiming that his striker had ‘no influence’ at all, the Argentine acknowledged that it was down to service – or lack of – more than anything else.
Here’s what Bielsa said to Leeds Live: “We had a problem in the creation. Patrick had no influence and could not receive the ball. Difficult to shine when you can’t give him service.”
Bamford, a £10 milling signing in 2018, is now five games without a goal and hasn’t scored for Leeds since the win over Fulham back on March 19.
With 14 Premier League goals this season, he has an outside chance of making Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020, but he really must enjoy a blistering end to the campaign to make the plane.
