Marcelo Bielsa has told Sky Sports that Leeds United’s pitch is improving, but Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson had a differing opinion.
Leeds beat Palace 2-0 last night, and their new surface was once again the focus of much debate.
There was a nasty moment in the first half when Mateusz Klich lost his footing and looked to be injured.
Thankfully the problem was only a momentary one, and Leeds seemed to find their footing slightly better after that.
The Whites did manage to pick up a 2-0 win and that, perhaps, was why Bielsa felt that the surface wasn’t all that bad.
“The pitch is much better than it was previously,” the Leeds boss said.
“There are a couple of games now were they are adapting to the characteristics of the pitch. In the last game we slipped many times but in this one not as much.”
Palace boss Hodgson was less complimentary towards the Elland Road pitch, though.
After watching his side lose, he told BBC Sport: “The pitch was difficult for both teams which doesn’t help when you’re the team chasing the game and trying to get back into it. They are maybe more used to it. It’s not the reason we lost the game but it may have affected the way we were able to pass the ball which I didn’t think we did well enough.”
Leeds’ win last night moves them into the top half of the Premier League table, while Palace are in 13th place.
