Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has admitted to Leeds Live that he was ‘unfair’ on Niall Huggins by asking him to come on yesterday.
Huggins made his senior debut for Leeds against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, and hardly in ideal circumstances.
With Leeds 4-0 down, Bielsa turned to one of the youngest and most inexperienced members of his squad to come on.
And Bielsa admits that his decision to bring the teenager on wasn’t ideal.
“It’s very difficult and unfair on a young player like Niall to come into the game in these circumstances where we’re losing 4-0 and to participate in trying to get us back into the game,” he said. “Had a balanced game. He didn’t shine, but did not do anything bad either.”
Huggins actually didn’t seem overawed on his Leeds’ debut, and his arrival coincided with the Whites’ best spell of the game.
Leeds managed to claw two goals back in the second-half after Huggins’s introduction, but they were unable to overturn the deficit entirely.

Still, Huggins did not hurt his cause to earn more regular first-team chances, with optimism only building over his future at Elland Road.
Leeds’ defeat to Arsenal means that they have slipped down to 11th place in the Premier League table.
