AS Roma could make a move for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in the January transfer window, according to Corriere dello Sport (print edition, page 17, November 18, 2021).

What’s the story?

It has been reported by the Italian news outlet that Roma could bid for Arsenal midfielder Xhaka when the transfer window opens in January.

Jose Mourinho’s side wanted to sign the Switzerland international in the summer transfer window.

However, a deal could not be struck with Roma.

It has now been reported that the Serie A club could reopen talks with Arsenal over Xhaka.

Could Granit Xhaka leave Arsenal?

Xhaka is on the sidelines at the moment.

Arsenal have stated that the 29-year-old midfielder aims to be back in full training in January.

Xhaka was playing regularly for manager Mikel Arteta’s team before he suffered the injury.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder also signed a contract extension with the Gunners in August 2021.

Interestingly, The Guardian reported in August 2021 that Xhaka himself wanted to leave for Roma.

Arsenal are dong well without the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) midfielder at the moment.

The Gunners are seemingly in the race for the Premier League top four this season.

And that’s why, in our view, Arteta will not let Xhaka leave in the January transfer window.
