Newcastle United fans think that Jamaal Lascelles should get an England call-up, especially after a mistake from Burnley’s James Tarkowski.
England drew 1-1 with Italy after James Tarkowski gave away a late penalty at Wembley Stadium to allow Lorenzo Insigne to equalise from the spot following Jamie Vardy’s opener.
Burnley defender Tarkowski was making his debut for his country after being one of three first time call-ups by manager Gareth Southgate.
The 25-year-old’s Clarets teammate Nick Pope was another, while Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson completed the trio of new blood put into the team by Southgate.
Many Newcastle United fans, and others, were surprised that with Tarkowski and Mawson being called up that their captain, Jamaal Lascelles, wasn’t also given a chance.
Lascelles has impressed for the Magpies this season following their promotion back to the Premier League after winning the Championship title and despite being capped at youth level has never played a senior game for the Three Lions.
After Tarkowski’s mistake many Newcastle fans now think it is the time for their skipper to be given his opportunity by Southgate.
