Well, don’t write Arsenal off yet in regards to a Champions League qualification spot.

The Gunners rocked up to Chelsea on the back of three successive Premier League defeats.

But by the half-hour mark, Arsenal were leading 2-1.

Emile Smith Rowe calmly stroked home a second for the visitors, after Timo Werner had cancelled out Eddie Nketiah’s opener.

But the counter-attack stemmed from Granit Xhaka knocking the ball past Romelu Lukaku in Arsenal’s box, before nutmegging Marcos Alonso a second later on the edge of the North Londoners’ area.

Here’s what Graeme Le Saux said during co-commentary on NBC Sport.

He said: “How they get away with this is beyond me. Xhaka going through someone’s legs on the edge of his own box. Massively high risk. He gets away with it.”

Maverick

This is why Xhaka is such a maverick.

Had he got this wrong, he’d have been battered from pillar to post by Arsenal supporters and the media – and rightly so.

But despite the risk, the Switzerland international clearly has massive belief in his own ability, enabling him to pull off some Evil Knievil type stunts on the pitch.

However, the goal wasn’t enough to give Arsenal a lead at half-time, with Cesar Azpilicueta poking the hosts back on level terms.
