West Ham United could still add a new face to their squad this summer.
The transfer window may have closed, but that doesn’t mean that Premier League clubs are done just yet, as free agents are still available to be signed.
After the flurry of activity before Thursday’s transfer deadline, most Premier League clubs are now focused on the new season and any targets will have to wait until January – but free agents do pose something of a thinker for managers.
One of the top free agents still on the market is Yaya Toure, who was released at the end of last season after eight years at the Etihad Stadium.
The Ivorian midfielder became a City hero following his 2010 move from Barcelona, racking up 79 goals in 316 games whilst winning three Premier League titles with the club.
Toure’s role somewhat diminished under his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola, and it was no great surprise when City allowed him to move on when his contract expired this summer.
The 35-year-old now finds himself without a club for the first time in his career, but bookmakers are still backing him to play in the Premier League this season.
Sky Bet have West Ham United as the 2/1 favourites to sign Toure on a free transfer even after landing Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere to boost their midfield this summer, whilst Wolves are in at 3/1.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini worked with Toure at City and guided him to 44 goals in three seasons under his tutelage, making a reunion potentially appealing on a free transfer – but whether the Hammers make a move remains to be seen.
