Tottenham Hotspur are being placed amongst the outsiders to sign Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles this summer.
While there appears to be very little for Newcastle United fans to be certain about ahead of this summer, it appears that they should expect a battle to hold onto club captain Jamaal Lascelles.
The Chronicle reported in February that Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal have all had their eye on the £35,000-a-week defender, while The Sun reported at the weekend that West Ham were planning a £15 million bid this summer.
One club that is yet to be linked is Tottenham, but bookmaker Bet Victor suspect that it may be foolish to rule Spurs out making a move for the 24-year-old as they have included Mauricio Pochettino’s side amongst the outsiders to sign Lascelles during the summer.
It remains to be seen whether there is anything in the odds linking Pochettino with a potential move for the Magpies star, but it would certainly be no surprise if Spurs did strengthen their centre-back options this summer.
Sky Sports recently reported that Toby Alderweireld continues to be linked with a move away from Spurs, and players such as Alfie Mawson (via The Times), Jonny Evans (via Telegraph), and Ben Mee (via The Sun on Sunday; 25/03, page 63) have all been touted as potential summer targets for Pochettino.
Lascelles has been excellent for Newcastle since securing a prominent role in the side and has established himself as a real leader in Rafa Benitez’s team, and he could undoubtedly develop further the longer that he remains in the Premier League.
And based on the Bet Victor odds alone, it appears that Tottenham making a move for him at the end of the season may not be entirely out of the question.
