Newcastle United are the joint second favourites to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez at the end of the season.

Rodriguez may have led the Baggies to a sensational win at Old Trafford against Manchester United at the weekend that gives their desperately slim survival hopes a boost, but it still seems more than likely that they will be playing Championship football next season.

But with three goals in his last four, perhaps Rodriguez will not be following them into the second tier. Bookmaker Sky Bet believe that a number of sides could make a move at the end of the campaign, with Crystal Palace currently leading the betting market at 4/1.
But just behind the Eagles are Rodriguez’s old club Burnley and Newcastle – with both sides listed at 6/1, which certainly hints that it may not be out of the question for either to pursue the former Southampton man during the coming months.
Newcastle have been superb lately, but it would still be little surprise if Benitez was keen to add at least one striker to his ranks in the next window, especially with Islam Slimani only at St James’ Park on loan.

Rodriguez may end the season with a relegation on his CV, but he has performed well following his £12 million switch to The Hawthorns (via Daily Mail) with seven goals coming in the top flight this term, and 11 in all competitions. And that return becomes a lot more impressive when you consider that he has played in numerous positions across the attack.
And while it remains to be seen if there is anything in the betting market, there may well be a number of Newcastle fans who would be keen to see Benitez target Rodriguez at the end of the season.
