Newcastle United are the favourite to sign Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge during the January transfer window with bookmaker Sky Bet.

On his day, Sturridge can be an excellent striker – so it would be no surprise if a number of teams were considering making a loan bid, even if the Reds want his £125,000 a week wages covered, as reported by The Sun.

It would be interesting to see whether the betting odds are a sign of things to come and Newcastle do decide to make a move for Sturridge in the January window, as while his injury record would probably make a move a gamble, it seems that Rafa Benitez’s men need to take a gamble or two.

Newcastle now find themselves in the relegation zone in the Premier League so next month’s window should undoubtedly be a crucial one for Benitez’s side if they hope to get themselves out of trouble.
And if the Magpies do end up signing Sturridge and he manages to stay fit, it would surely have the potential to be a masterstroke of a deal – and one that keeps Newcastle in the top flight for another year.
